"Climate Week" was opened in Tbilisi

On October, 17, a ceremonial opening of a week devoted to the International Day of Struggle against climate changes was held in front of the building of the Georgian Parliament.

Gigi Ugulava, Mayor of Tbilisi, declared at the ceremony that in spite of the fact that Tbilisi was a relief city and the bicycle was practically out of use as a vehicle there, it was important for the residents to replace the car with the bicycle sometimes for it would promote diminishing of the environment pollution, "Georgia Online" reports.

"Climate Week" was opened by Gigi Ugulava, Mayor of Tbilisi, Goga Khachidze, Minister of environmental protection, and Per Eclund, Leader of the Office of European Consolidation in Georgia. Before the ceremony a parade of cyclists and skateboarders had been arranged from Vake park to the building of the Parliament with the participation of Mayor of Tbilisi and Minister of environmental protection.

Mayor of Tbilisi moved forward an idea of substitution of passenger buses for electric vehicles. "The buses which are at the City hall's disposal annually expend diesel at a cost of 29 million lari. This is, from the one hand, the sum we lose, from the other, it is one of the main sources of environment pollution. Therefore, in several years we are planning step-by-step substitution of the buses for electric vehicles", GHN quotes Ugulava's speech.

A number of actions within the framework of the "Climate Week" passing off under the slogan "The more reasonable out traffic the better we live" has been planned. The "Week" has been organized by the "Green Movement of Georgia".
