Picket against "Electrozink" factory held in Vladikavkaz

Today, members of the initiative group "Electrozink. What do we breathe in?" active in the website "Odnoklassniki.ru" held a picket near the building of the local "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Consumer Supervision) against the amicable agreement of the Agency with the "Electrozink" factory. The picket was also recalled a strong emission of hazardous substances by the factory right one year ago.

The picketers were holding posters reading: "Penalty for poisoning", "Save us and future generation of Ossetia", "Electrozink: metallurgy or chemical experiments on population?", "Ensure lawful sanitary zone", "For ecology and health outside politics". Besides, this time many of them held balloons, bearing the names of the heavy metals, which, according to protesters, get into the atmosphere from the factory.

"This is a protest picket against the decision of the 16th Court of Arbitration in Yessentuki on the amicable agreement. It violates our constitutional rights, as emissions and poisoning of the city population will continue for five years more," said German Revazov, the organizer of the picket, who has lost, as he asserts, six relatives who died from cancer.

He believes that officials should be held responsible for the people dying of cancer because of the unhealthy ecological situation in the city.
