Court upholds custody of figurant in Yuri Volkov's murder case

The Moscow City Court has left Bekkhan Ibragimov, one of suspects in the case dealing with Muscovite Yuri Volkov's murder during a group fight in Chistoprudny Boulevard, behind bars.

His defence petitioned for his release, but the prosecutors insisted that Ibragimov should remain in custody, as victims complained of threats.

On September 10, the Basmanny Court of Moscow extended the custody term of Ibragimov for another month. By its decision the appeal board of the Moscow City Court upheld the ruling of the first instance, while the defence complaint was rejected, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

The fight between Muscovites and Chechens in Chistoprudny Boulevard, where the 23-year-old Yuri Volkov was killed and his two friends injured, burst out at night on July 10.

On July 14, a non-sanctioned rally of nationalists in memory of the slain Yuri Volkov was held in central Moscow. Two columns about 700-strong marched through the city to the "Chistye Prudy" metro station. Some 300-500 football fans also came, since Volkov was a Moscow Spartak fan. The second action took place on July 17 with participation of some 400 persons.

The defendants - natives of Chechnya Ahmedpashi Aidaev and Bekkhan Ibragimov - were arrested on July 27; and on July 29 they challenged their arrest. One of the victims recognized Aidaev as the person who had knifed Volkov.

Experts note that after Yuri Volkov murder and the mass brawl in the children's camp "Don", Krasnodar Territory, the Internet is literally flooded with anti-Caucasian sentiments.
