Ukrainian seamen, holding strike in Novorossisk, go to court

Ukrainian seamen from the commercial ship named REF-607 have filed a claim asking to arrest their vessel. They try to get their salary debt from the ship owner in the sum of about 60,000 US dollars.

As reported earlier by the "Caucasian Knot", the REF-607 steamer lies in the Novorossisk sea port since July 19; its owner – the Kenset Assets S.A. Company – is in Lithuania.

"Now, there are seven persons remaining onboard," Olga Ananyeva, inspector of the International Federation of Transport Workers, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to her story, the arrest ruling, so anticipated by the seamen, should be passed within the next few days.

"All the addresses and phone numbers specified in guarantee letters and contracts are invalid. These are addresses of ordinary dwelling houses," said Ms Ananyeva. "The seamen signed their contracts with a nonexistent company. The register owner – the one specified in ship documents – is located in Panama."
