Archaeological monuments found during construction in Sochi

As reported by Roman Mimokhod, head of the archaeological expedition, in the course of the broad-scale archaeological studies, conducted in parallel to construction of Olympic sites, several dozens of monuments were found.

"Only in the territory of Imereti Lowland we've dug out 12 monuments dated back to the period from the Bronze Age to Middle Ages," he said.

Archaeologists have excavated several thousands of stone, iron, ceramic, glass and bronze objects. Findings are measured in thousands. Ten out of twelve monuments are within the Olympic construction zone, the "Interfax" reports.

According to Mr Mimokhod, "when it all started in 2008, the situation was about to get out of control: monuments had been found, registered, but they tried to start construction on them," the "Vecherni Sochi" writes.
