Gurtuev: Balkars' hunger strike in Moscow lost its sense

As stated by Oyus Gurtuev, deputy chair of the Board of Elders of the Balkar People (BEBP), the protest action of a group of residents of Kabardino-Balkaria in Moscow has lost any further sense; the hunger strike should be stopped, and European structures should be addressed for help.

In his opinion, since the authorities have paid no attention to the hunger-strikers yet, the continuation of the action is senseless. They just risk to detriment their health, especially under the smog from forest fires.

"It's time to pass over to other measures," Mr Gurtuev said and offered to appeal to the European Union as one of such measures. According to his story, activists would not like to address European structures, but they are forced to, as they found no understanding in their country.

"We want to live under Russian laws, and we struggle for them to be observed, that's all," he has emphasized.
