Five persons suffer in explosion of dwelling house in Baku

The explosion happened in the morning on August 13 in an one-storey house in the Nasimin District of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The house took fire.

According to preliminary data, the explosion was caused by natural gas leakage.
The victims, including a child, with burning injuries were hospitalized, as the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Baku fast and urgent medical aid station. The condition of the patients is of medium gravity; the child was slightly wounded.

The burnt-down house is in an old Baku district between Fizuli and Shamsi Badalbeili Streets. Back in winter the city authorities started the demolition of the district with the aim to build Winter Parkway instead. However, residents of these streets express their discontent with the actions of the authorities, which move them out without paying the due, in their opinion, compensation at a rate of 1500 manats (1800 US dollars) per square meter.

Local residents believe that the explosion in their house was not accidental. "In this way they oust us out from here," said Asif Sadykhov, a tenant of the poor house.

Zulfali Ismailov, head of the secretariat of the Baku Mayoralty, has refuted any involvement of the city authorities in the explosion.
