Mass poisoning with confectionery in Rostov Region

Numerous cases of poisoning in the Bagaev District, Rostov Region, became known on August 2. On July 29 and 30, 15 persons were hospitalized there, including seven children and an 11-month-old baby.

The local "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency of Consumer Supervision) confirms the information about the poisonings.

It is supposed that all the victims had eaten locally made confectionery products. Under preliminary data, the poisonings were caused not by violation of storage rules, that is, not the heat has deteriorated the products, but the salmonella virus that was found in them.

"Pretty many questions arise about cooking. The production of these confectioneries was carried out without a due permit and due conditions. They were sold without refrigerators; in such heat, you can imagine...," said Mikhail Solovyov, head of the "Rospotrebnadzor" Department for the Rostov Region.

The legal entity - the producer and seller together - was attracted to administrative responsibility and may be fined. The patients' rehabilitation may take several months, the "Vesti" TV Channel reports.
