Tbilisi hosts exhibition of Russian photographer on victims of armed conflicts

The "Karvasla" exhibition centre in Tbilisi hosts an exhibition of photo works by the Russian journalist and photographer of Victoria Ivleva "Apotheosis of War". The exposition includes 42 photos made in 1992-2005 and dedicated to victims of armed conflicts in different corners of the planet.

The photo exhibition is presented by the Alliance of Nongovernmental Organizations "Dialogue of Women-Peacemakers of Russia and Georgia", where the members are the Cultural-Humanitarian Fund "Sukhumi" (Georgia), Union "Women of the Don" (Russia), Georgian-Abkhazian Union "Face to Face", Fund TASO (Georgia) and Association of Journalists "GenderMediaKavkaz" (Georgia).

On the opening day of the exhibition, July 23, Victoria Ivleva gave a press conference at the Tbilisi International Press Centre of the RIA "Novosti".

Galina Petriashvili, president of the Association of Journalists "GenderMediaKavkaz", who opened the press conference, said that the exhibition is one of partnership projects. "The Alliance of Russian and Georgian Women-Peacemakers continues working together. Since 2008, we've repeatedly held cultural actions aimed to bring the two countries closer. For the first time this exhibition was opened in 2005 in the Moscow Museum of Modern Arts; it was then shown in eight cities of Russia and in Kiev," she said.

Rusudan Marshaniya, who represented the Georgian-Abkhazian Union "Face to Face", said: "We wanted very much to succeed with this project and make people in Georgia to see this photos; it will help us to find mutual understanding. We all love our Homelands; therefore, we want our countries to never be at war. We're here also because our societies still remember all the good that was between them: cultural ties, which contributed to both Georgian and Russian cultures," she said.

Having touched the activities of women-peacemakers, Victoria Ivleva has noted that the exhibition is just "a small drop" in their work.

"But I know that my children, whom I took with me here to Georgia, will sometime ask me: listen, there was a war, and what have you done? I've done what I could," said Victoria Ivleva.

The exhibition will last for a week.
