Teachers of Additional Education Centre in Astrakhan stop their hunger strike

The teachers of the Astrakhan Regional "Centre of Children's Scientific and Technical Creativity", who demanded to cancel the order about reorganization of the "Centre of Children's Aesthetic Training", have stopped their hunger strike.

The teachers' protest action was against closing free-of-charge children's circles as a result of transforming the budget-funded Centre into an "autonomous" one.

In the afternoon, the hunger-strikers were visited by the Minister of Education, officials from the government, head of the trade union and a lawyer, who offered a compromise. They suggested that the "Centre of Children's Scientific and Technical Creativity" may be incorporated into the Astrakhan Engineering and Building Institute.

"The teachers held a consultation and concluded that 'there's no better way out'," said Olga Lyashenko, one of protesters. The arrangement reached, the teachers decided to stop their protest action.
