Murat Berzegov, leader of "Circassian Congress", gets political asylum in the USA

The US authorities have granted political asylum to Murat Berzegov, founder and chairman of the Non-Commercial Organization (NCO) "Circassian Congress" (office in Maikop, the capital of Adygea), having found that in Russia he and his family were in danger.

Zaur Dzeukozhev, deputy chair of the Congress, believes "that this is the long-expected final." Murat Berzegov left Russia "because of threats to life of his family and children. Besides, the authorities and law enforcement bodies of Adygea deprived him of chances to earn his daily bread."

According to Dzeukozhev, they tried to put Berzegov's house on fire; and he repeatedly received threats. For the first time, as he said, it was done before the congress of the Adyg nation in April 2006.

The source told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Murat's elder son suffers, after a road accident from increased craniocerebral tension. "They wanted to recruit him to the army, the case reached the court. The chairman of the 'Circassian Congress' was told unofficially that his sons would pay for everything Murat had told and did," said Dzeukozhev and noted that it "was the last drop." Berzegov sent his sons abroad, and in two years he left Russia together with his wife," he said.

The "Caucasian Knot" wrote earlier that Murat Berzegov resolutely opposed integration of the Republic of Adygea into the Krasnodar Territory, believing that it will harm the Adyg ethnos.

Besides, Berzegov protested against Olympiad-2014 in Sochi.
