Gamsakhurdia's advocate rejects her client's accusation of bribery

Lawyer Keti Bekauri, who is defending the interests of Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, son of the first president of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia, has treated the new charge presented to her client as "provocation".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that another criminal case was initiated against Tsotne Gamsakhurdia: he was accused of giving a bribe of 500 laris to an employee of the penitentiary system.

According to Amiran Abuashvili, spokesman of the investigatory department, Tsotne had tried to bribe the employee for providing information to him and for taking his correspondence out of the jail without knowledge of the administration of the corrective establishment.

"What we heard and saw yesterday is a provocation. I see nothing criminal in it. The prisoner asked a prison employee to bring correspondence - it's no crime. All the prisoners have the right to it," said the lawyer.

She noted that "the video record shown by TV channels and depicting Tsotne Gamsakhurdia in his underwear is humiliation of his honour and dignity; and we'll take respective steps to this end."

"I spoke to Gamsakhurdia, but he would hear nothing. He said that another provocation was made against him, and has no intention to cooperate with the investigation," the "GHN" quotes the lawyer as saying.
