Dagestan residents dissatisfied with law enforcers' nonfeasance

Recent frequent murders of militiamen and attacks on public catering establishments have causes worry in local residents. People believe that the militia, which is unable to ensure safety of its workers, moreover cannot take care and defend peaceful residents.

The worsened crime situation in Dagestan and almost everyday murders of militiamen give rise to residents' irritation, who demand to stop the crime revelry.

Abdurakhman, a resident of Derbent, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he is shocked by what happens now in his once quiet city.

"Earlier, a murder - of not a militiaman, but just of a person, - was a rarity. Now bandits are easily driving around the city, blow up railway stations and hunt for militiamen. And nobody can stop this orgy," he said.

As reported to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a former employee of law enforcement bodies of Dagestan, today the local MIA has practically no professionals left.

"The network of secret agents is disorganized; guys from villages join the militia in order to get some salary, and to have a 'document' and firearms. What can they do? It is necessary to radically change the whole structure of training militiamen and to get rid of the workers who have compromised themselves," he believes.

Many residents of Makhachkala, interrogated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, expressed their readiness to create voluntary regiments for guarding their houses and adjacent territories.
