Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria declared Board of Elders of the Balkar people to be extremist

The Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria has ruled on liquidation of the public organization of the Board of Elders of the Balkar People of Kabardino-Balkaria (BEBP), due to its extremist activities. The representatives of organizations are going to appeal against this decision at the Supreme Court of Russia.

Prosecutor's Office of Kabardino-Balkaria, earlier reported by the "Caucasus Knot", had filed a lawsuit in court. Upon examination of the analytical report "On Situation with Balkars in the KBR (Kabardino-Balkarian Republic): sources of problems and ways for solving them", released by the BEBP, there was concluded that the report contained signs of extremism in the form of propaganda of exclusiveness or inferiority of citizens on the basis of their nationality.

Let us note that on May 13 the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria resumed the hearings of the case, which was suspended three years ago, about liquidation of the Board of Elders of the Balkar People.

The court rejected the petition from the BEBP members about an independent linguistic examination of the analytical report "On Situation with Balkars in the KBR" and twenty members of the BEBP made the demarche, having left the court hall.

"We are not interested in the decision to be taken by the court", one of the BEBP leaders Ruslan Babaev said. According to another leader of the BEBP Oyus Gurtuev, the NGO will appeal against the decision of the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria at the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, having stressed that "the court took into consideration none of the arguments, on which Russia's Supreme Court overturned the decision of the KBR Supreme Court."
