ICPO sends case of explosion organizers in Sochi to court

The Division for Especially Important Cases of the Investigatory Department of the Russian ICPO (Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office) for the Krasnodar Territory has sent to the Regional Court the criminal case about the series of explosions committed in Sochi in 2008-2009 and other crimes, as a result of which 14 persons perished and 20 more were wounded. Ilya Galkin, a former militiaman, and Mikhail Denisenko, an employee of a TV company, are accused of these crimes.

Under the version of the investigation, in February 2008, Galkin, who then occupied the position of inspector of Platoon No. 1 of the Militia Patrol-Post Regiment, directly subordinated to the UVD (Interior Department) of the City-Resort Sochi, decided to commit a series of explosions of self-made devices. He involved his friend Mikhail Denisenko in his criminal plans.

In the period from April 2008 to February 20, 2009, the defendants produced at least 9 self-made explosive items and triggered them in Sochi. Thus, on April 3, 2008, they placed a self-made bomb having the power of about 50 grams in trotyl equivalent, masked as a cigarette case, on a bench in the alley in Kirov Park of Lazarevskoe settlement of Sochi. As a result of the explosion, two men received bodily injuries, as the "Interfax" reports.

According to the results of the forensic complex psychological and psychiatric examination, the defendants were quite sane when committing their crimes. In the opinion of the investigation, their motives were in the desire to take revenge for earlier experienced humiliations, attempts to raise their self-estimate and assert themselves. As reported by the "Rosbalt" with reference to the investigation, in the course of investigatory actions the defendants had admitted their guilt.
