Irakli Alasaniya runs for the post of Tbilisi Mayor

The leader of the "Alliance for Georgia" Irakli Alasaniya has submitted an application to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) about his intention to run for the post of Tbilisi Mayor.

The application on behalf of Alasaniya and the list of candidates of the "Alliance" for the City Council (Sakrebulo) of Tbilisi were submitted by three leaders of this political association - Tinatin Khidasheli, Mamuka Katsitadze and Zurab Abashidze.

According to Mr Alasaniya, the main aim of the "Alliance" at the elections is in social transformations. "We have a serious programme on health services to our citizens and a programme of struggling against unemployment. We have serious offers on how to address social problems. This is our main point. But, certainly, we should also struggle for improvement of political conditions," said Irakli Alasaniya.

Earlier, the CEC registered the following candidates to the post of Tbilisi Mayor: Zviad Dzidziguri from the "National Council", David Yakobidze from the Democratic Party of Georgia, Gigi Ulugava from the "United National Movement", Nika Ivanishvili from the "People's Democrats", Giorgi Lagidze from the "Georgia of the Future", Giya Chanturiya from the Christian-Democratic Party", Gogi Topadze from the "Industry Will Save Georgia" and Tamaz Vashadze from the "Solidarity" Party.

By the estimates of all leading experts in Georgia, the main rivals for the post of Tbilisi Mayor are Irakli Alasaniya and Gigi Ugulava. Political scientists treat other candidates as "supernumeraries."
