Khloponin: no need to return CTO to NCFD

Alexander Khloponin, Russian Vice-Premier and President's Plenipotentiary for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), sees no need to return the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime to the territory of the District.

"I see no need to reintroduce the CTO regime in the greater part of the territory," said Mr Khloponin.

According to the Plenipotentiary, "it may be the desire of those people who try to imbalance the situation and spoil the conditions for normal development of the District," therefore, "they contemplate all over again on this topic."

"We need to strengthen the work towards counteracting corruption and solving the recent resonant crimes committed in the District," the ITAR-TASS quotes Mr Khloponin as saying.

In the near future, he will present his list of actions towards fighting against terrorism and improvement of the safety situation in the District to the President of the Russian Federation. He said, as the "Vesti" reports, that the actions would address transport safety and security in public places.
