Charge against human rights activist accused in software piracy dismissed in Krasnodar

In Krasnodar, militia dismissed a charge against Anastasia Denisova, Head of ETnIKA , Krasnodarsky human rights organization, who was accused in unlawful use of pirated software versions.

We would remind you that Prosecutor Office of Lenin district in Krasnodar has accused Denisova in using the counterfeit software for the computers found both in a premise she rents and in her friend's house. However prosecutor and his colleagues in court have not afforded the proofs of these computers being in possession of the charged person or used for ETnIKA activity. Accordingly, judge Lonshakov granted a petition of this very Prosecutor Office and sent them back a case. Denisova insisted on her innocence and regretted of being incapacitated to work in her own right. In opinion of human rights activists, prosecution of Anastasia Denisova stems from her public work, and this criminal matter is one of episodes in the whole chain of successive pressure cases.

Gazeta.RU quotes Ilia Shakalov, head of press office of Internal Affairs Department (IAD) in Krasnodar, as saying that IAD investigation administration has dropped inquiry in the absence of crime in Denisova's act.

According to the IAD representative, militia has already informed the human rights activist of this decision.

Earlier on, in reply to numerous requests of Denisova's advocates, as well as human rights activists and journalists, to Microsoft Company in respect of its participation in criminal process and prosecution of the human rights activist, the Company's officials declared that claimants, who act in Microsoft's name, have no grounds for that.
