Stavropol Territory boosts efforts to defend children's rights

On April 16, the Investigatory Department (ID) for the Stavropol Territory of the ICPO and the regional representative on children's rights (Children's Ombudsperson) signed a cooperation agreement in the sphere of prevention of crimes against children, and defence of their rights and interests.

The ID will regularly inform the representative about all the revealed facts, when minors occur in socially hazardous conditions.

"Violence against children is a problem behind closed doors. Obvious problems are frequently held back, including by victims' parents who dislike washing dirty linen in public, don't trust children, or just remain indifferent," the "Stavropolye" TV Channel quotes the Children's Ombudsman Svetlana Adamenko as saying.

During the first quarter of 2010, the investigatory bodies of the Stavropol Territory initiated 11 criminal cases, where 11 minors figure as victims. Nine of them are under 14; and 8 were victims of sexual violence, the RBC Agency reports.
