Pistol from which pastor Sysoev was murdered found on citizen of Kirghizia killed in Dagestan

The pistol from which Daniil Sysoev, provost of the Moscow Apostle Thomas cathedral, had been murdered on November 19, 2009, was found on Beksultan Karybekov, born in Kirghizia, killed in the capital of Dagestan. This has been made known in the RF ICPO.

For reference, the well-known Orthodox missionary Reverend Daniil Sysoev, provost of the Moscow Apostle Thomas cathedral in the Kantemirov Street, was shot dead in the cathedral on November 19, 2009.

As the "Caucasian Knot" has been informed at the Russian ICPO, the weapon from which Daniil Sysoev was murdered is now established.

For reference, on December 1, 2009, officers of a Northern post of the traffic militia in Makhachkala at its entrance stopped a taxi for checking the documents of the driver and his passenger.

The driver's documents caused no suspicion of the militiamen. The traffic militiamen took the passenger to the post building where they asked him to show his ID.

However, the taxi passenger put up armed resistance. He snatched out and threw a grenade into the post building, after which he started to shoot at the militiamen from a pistol.

As a result, bullet wounds of various degree of seriousness were inflicted on three militiamen, one of them died in hospital.

The attacker was killed by return fire. A passport to the name of Beksultan Karybekov, born in 1987, resident of the town of Osh, Republic of Kirghizia, and a pneumatic pistol reworked for shooting 9 mm calibre bullets were found on the person.

"The investigation has established doubtless proof now that it is from this pistol that Daniil Sysoev was murdered. In this connection, additional investigative actions are under way, the connection of Karybekov with the attack on the cathedral provost is being checked," relays the Investigation Committee representative to the "Caucasian Knot".

Meanwhile, the relatives of Karybekov claim that his passport happened to be on another person and state that the 23-year-old Kirghiz is alive. This has been reported to the Kirghiz newspaper "Case No…" at the republic's MIA with reference to the testimony of Karybekov's mother who lives in the town of Osh. The woman explained to the militiamen that her son had lost his passport for foreign travel about one year earlier, following which he wrote a due application and restored the document.

Now, according to Karybekova, her son studies abroad. The Kirghizia militiamen have not met with the young man in person.

The Russian investigators do not claim unambiguously whether Karybekov killed the priest and do not mention what could be the motif for the crime.

An informant in the law enforcement agencies has reported to the "Interfax" agency that Karybekov for several years maintained relations with Said Buryatskiy, one of the leaders of the armed underground, killed in the course of a special operation at the beginning of March in Ingushetia.

The young man allegedly met Buryatskiy in Ulan-Ude and the latter advised Karybekov to go to the Egypt Islamic University "Al-Azkhar". According to the information from the source, Karybekov actually went to Cairo, but he quit his studies in 2008 and, following that, he resided in Ulan-Ude. According to the agency source, the killer had bought a ticket to Bishkek and went there immediately after the murder of the priest.

The ICPO has not commented yet on the information about a possible acquaintance of Karybekov with Buryatskiy, reports the "Gazeta.Ru" agency.

Note that the responsibility for murdering Reverend Daniil Sysoev was assumed by North Caucasus militants. This has been mentioned by one of the sites supporting the armed underground in Ingushetia.

As was reported earlier, Daniil Sysoev was a specialist on Islam. He had been in a constant dispute with extremist trends of Islam, he had published the book "Marriage with a Moslem". Additionally, the priest was author of an article in collected works "Orthodox Response to Islam". The murdered provost of the cathedral was well-known for his active missionary activity. Starting from 1996, he was conducting cycles of talks with people who had suffered from the activity of sects and occultists. He worked at the centre of rehabilitation for victims of totalitarian cults and pseudo-religious movements named after Saint John of Kronstadt. He had published a score of articles on creative activity. The last book by Daniil Sysoev was titled "Instruction for the Immortal: what to do if you have died, after all".
