European Commission concerned about the video of "Imedi" TV channel shown in Georgia

Today, Jose Manuel Barroso, chairman of the European Commission, has expressed his concern to the Georgian Prime-Minister Nike Ghilauri in connection with the report of the "Imedi" TV channel broadcast on March 13 about the alleged invasion of Russian troops.

For reference, on March 13, the Georgian TV channel "Imedi" broadcast a compiled report, according to which a terrorist act had been committed in Tskhinvali against leader of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity, following which the Russian troops encroached upon Georgia. The program stories included information that President Mikhail Saakashvili was killed while part of the opposition supported the invasion. The program lasted half an hour, and after the reports on "terrible bombing of airports and sea ports of Georgia" the TV Company reported that this was "a special report on the possible development of events".

"I have expressed my concern to the Prime-Minister," cites the words of Barroso, said to the journalists after the bilateral meeting with Ghilauti in Brussels, the "Gazeta.Ru" agency.
