Ombudsmen of Russia's South discussed in Astrakhan problems of interaction with public authorities

An interregional conference having commissioners for human rights of Russia's South as participants was held in Astrakhan on October 17-18.

Ella Pamfilova, chairwoman of the presidential commission on human rights, reported that the main subject-matter of the conference was "Interaction Between Commissioners for Human Rights and Public Authorities".

"This seminar is a continuation of the program to assist with making the institution of the ombudsman in the South Federal District, which is one of the most problem districts in Russia. Its territory has been a place of hostilities for a long time, and it entailed mass migration of people, who need protection of their rights of labor, habitation, medical care and social maintenance," stressed Ella Pamfilova.

The conference was arranged by the Saint Petersburg Center "Strategy" and the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe.
