Residents of Semikarakorsk, Rostov Region, got poisoned by bad potable water

The reason has been found why so many residents of the city of Semikarakorsk, Rostov Region, had to go to the central district hospital: pollution of the potable water delivered by the local water line. Now, five persons are still in hospital, 72 more are at home under doctors' supervision.

"As of today, hospitals received over 400 calls; however, the common source of the disease was established only in 77 persons, 41 children among them," said Mikhail Solovyov, Chief State Health Officer of the Rostov Region.

He explained that the reason of the virus infection in these 77 persons was poor purification of potable water. "The purification facilities of the Semikarakorsk District have failed, by virtue of the technology they use, to cope with the traditionally increased population of viruses observed in the Don region at weather warming. Although the facilities were at work; however the virus managed to get in," Mr Solovyov has explained, having added that now experts are disinfecting the water line and the water, as the "Mayak" Radio reports.

The "Interfax" adds that an administrative case was initiated against the local water supply company, and it was fined.
