Over 40,000 cars with excessively tinted glasses found in Chechnya in four months

Starting last October till this February, Chechen law enforcers, who fight against excessive tinting of car glasses, revealed 40,000 cars with substandard dark tinting. In the meantime, drivers complain of excessive demands of the STSI (State Traffic Safety Inspectorate) employees.

"Since last October, the territory of our republic is covered, under instruction of President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, by broad-scale actions against excessive car glass tinting within the campaign named 'Glass'. During this period, road inspectors revealed 40,000 cars with excessive tinting out of the total of 177,323 motor vehicles registered in the republic," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by a source in the local STSI (also known in Russia as "GIBDD").

"Despite numerous warnings, many drivers fail to remove their excessive tinting, and when during our operations we force them to do it, they start protesting with indignation. It's just mere irresponsibility," the source believes.

Meanwhile many drivers assert that road policemen demand to remove not only excessive tinting but also factory-made tinted glasses (the so-called "circle"). In their opinion, inspectors exceed their powers and violently break the traffic rules in force in Russia.

"All over Russia, 30-percent tinting is allowed. Here, they demand fully un-tinted glasses, allegedly referring to Ramzan Kadyrov's order," a local resident named Rakhim told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
