Opposition journalist was sent down from university

Opposition journalist Elnur Sadygov was sent down from the university in Gyandzha where he studied. His administrative arrest in Dashkesan in June 2003, provoked by local authorities that were displeased with his publications, was named as a reason.

This "action of loyalty" blends with the authorities' campaign during which two professors disposed to opposition have already been dismissed from universities of Baku.

The Human Rights Center of Azerbaijan decidedly condemns the campaign of moral and administrative terror in universities, which contradicts obligations of the Azerbaijan government to the Council of Europe. The Human Rights Center will inform the monitoring structures of the Council of Europe about the administration's decision. And it demands this decision to be disaffirmed.
