Car with riot policemen from Tambov was undermined

One serviceman died and three received wounds as a result of the undermining of federal forces' car in the southwest of Chechnya.

As it was reported at the local regional interior department, yesterday the armored UAZ-469 car that was carrying riot policemen from Tambov hit a high-capacity radio-controlled landmine planted on the roadside. The incident occurred on the road Katar-Yurt - Achkhoy-Martan. Injured soldiers were hospitalized.

According to the words of a local police officer, another explosive assembly was found not far from the place of undermining. A group of field engineers was sent to the site of occurrence. Movement along the road has been interrupted.

  • Rights defenders give number of kidnapped people in Chechnya

    At least 80 residents of Chechnya have been kidnapped after a car with a DUSTUM license plate was set on fire; volunteers have identified the names of a number of them. In the village of Starye Atagi, Urus-Martan District, about 50 members of the Saif-Islam Elmurzaev family, suspected of setting the above car on fire, have been kidnapped; and about 30 people have been kidnapped in the Shali District, the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD)* has reported.
