Unemployment on the fall in North Ossetia

Analysis of the situation in labour market of North Ossetia shows that the number of workplaces is no longer shrinking, and the number of jobless workers no longer grows, as reported Nikolai Koliev, head of the division on labour migration.

The monitoring of the labour market, conducted by the Committee on Population's Employment of North Ossetia from October 22, 2008, till June 21, 2009, revealed that 1171 persons lost their jobs. Of them, 207 persons are already employed. The number of registered jobless persons makes 15,154, while employers have announced 3080 vacancies.

As of today, the total number of working foreigners in the republic is 288 persons; they are mainly employed in construction (47%). Labour migrants come to North Ossetia from Uzbekistan (59%), Bulgaria (30%), Vietnam (28%), Armenia (17%), Ukraine (13%) and other countries.

  • Rights defenders give number of kidnapped people in Chechnya

    At least 80 residents of Chechnya have been kidnapped after a car with a DUSTUM license plate was set on fire; volunteers have identified the names of a number of them.
