In Chechnya, robot-sapper is engaged in demining

Sappers of the "Leader" Special-Purpose Centre of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) of Russia, who arrived in mid-April to Chechnya to clean the territory of one of the state farms from mines, shells and other explosives, have started using a special robotic complex in their dangerous work.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Chechnya's MfE that on April 30 experts from the "Leader" Centre for the first time used a robot for demining. The robot-sapper has about 280 kilos of weight and can operate up to 500 meters away from its operator.

Earlier, to detect mines and unexploded ammunition they used only light equipment and dogs. The robot-sapper can also perform video observation of dangerous areas.

The MfE experts hope that the use of the new complex will improve efficiency of searching and liquidating mines, fougasses, shells and other explosives in the territory subject to demining.
