Dagestani resident sentenced for participation in militant grouping

The court sentenced Ragim Yarmetov to 2.5 years of imprisonment in a case on a militant grouping in Kaspiysk. Ragim Yarmetov pleaded not guilty.

The board of the Military Court of Appeal in the Moscow Region upheld the verdict pronounced by the Southern District Military Court on March 17 to sentence 22-year-old Ragim Yarmetov to two years and five months of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today by an official from the Moscow court.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learned from the press service of the Southern District Military Court that Ragim Yarmetov was found guilty under the article on participation in a terrorist grouping, but acquitted under articles on organizing an armed formation and on illicit trafficking of arms, ammunition, and explosives.

According to public prosecutors, in May 2016, a terrorist grouping was created in the Dagestani city of Kaspiysk, and Ragim Yarmetov joined it in July 2016. On October 13, 2016, Ragim Yarmetov was detained by law enforcers. Ragim Yarmetov himself pleaded guilty only under the article "Intentional damage or destruction of other people's property", but escaped punishment because of the expiry of periods of limitations.
