Public prosecutor's office of Rostov region sanctioned the indictment on the criminal case against Seiran Mkhitaryan, ex-Deputy Chief of operational detective unit of Department of Interior Affairs in Rostov-on-Don, and Armen Yegiazaryan, ex-Chief of operational detective unit of the same Department of Interior Affairs. The policemen are accused of extortion of a bribe to a sum of 1,5 million rubles.

The defence of Aslan Cherkesov, a native of Nalchik, convicted for killing Yegor Sviridov, is getting ready to continue the litigation at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), said Dmitry Pankov, Cherkesov's advocate. According to his story, the complaint will be filed no earlier than March, after receipt of the cassation decision of the Russian Supreme Court (SC). On the other hand, Roman Kuchin, who is representing the victims, finds the SC's decision lawful and justified.

On January 26, Nicolas Bratza, Chairman of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg, said at a press conference that Russia is leading by the number of complaints submitted to the Court. According to his story, by December 31, 2011, the ECtHR had registered 40,250 complaints against Russia, which is 26.6 percent of total complaints received. A significant part of decisions on them has to do with the cases of residents of Northern Caucasus.
