Former Deputy Mayor of Rostov-on-Don accused of fraud and abuse of power

Alexander Kuryanov, a former Deputy Mayor of Rostov-on-Don for housing and municipal services, is a figurant of two criminal cases. He is accused of a fraud and abuse of service powers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 3, 2011, the Mayor of Rostov-on-Don Mikhail Chernyshov sacked his deputy Alexander Kuryanov, claiming shortages of heat supplies to citizens' homes as the reason.

After Alexander Kuryanov's dismissal, in early November last year, it became known that he was accused of a fraud.

According to investigators, in early 2010, while in the post of Director of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise (MUE) "Teplokommunenergo", Alexander Kuryanov stole 13.3 million roubles, intended for company's contractors. According to the "Vedomosti", a criminal case has been opened against Kuryanov under Part 4, Article 159, of the Criminal Code.

Yesterday, on January 26, Kuryanov also saw charges of abuse of service powers.

According to investigators, he issued a false certificate to a construction company, which got a chance to connect one of the houses to the heating header, although it was impossible under specifications. As a result, the house was improperly heated; the inflicted damage is estimated at 10 million roubles, the Rostov News Agency reports.
