Defenders demand to consider appeal against arrests of Azerbaijani IDPs
The Court of Appeal has closed the consideration of an appeal filed against the arrests of four internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Jabrail District of Azerbaijan, who were arrested for involvement in a protest action against power cuts-off in villages for IDPs. An advocate of the arrested people announced his intention to seek for review of the Court's decision.

Lawyers see contradictions in criminal article on non-informing police of crime and legal culture in Caucasus
When commenting on the first criminal case opened under Article 205.6 of the Russian Criminal Code, adopted in the framework of the "Irina Yarovaya's package of laws", lawyers have noted that the practice of criminal prosecution for failure to inform the police of a crime sharpens the contradictions between the law and the norms of legal culture and the specifics of tribal relations accepted among residents of the Caucasus.

Residents of Dagestan report on calm situation in CTO area
At 1:00 p.m. Moscow time of January 17, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced within a separate section of the Buynaksk District and the adjacent Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan. Veliev's defence finds Baku court's arrest judgement unjustified
The arrest of Rakhim Veliev, an activist of the Azerbaijani youth "Nida" movement, will be appealed against at the Court of Appeal (CoA), said his advocate, adding that the young man was arrested for 30 days. According to the judgement, the activist had not obeyed the police.

Maxim Shevchenko announces name of new Dagestani leader
According to unofficial information, Sergey Chenchik, the head of the Chief Headquarters of the Russian Guard, can replace Ramazan Abdulatipov as the leader of Dagestan. This was announced by journalist Maxim Shevchenko, a member of the Russian Presidential Council on Civil Society and Human Rights.

Doctor Liza buried in Moscow
On January 16, Elizaveta Glinka, also known as Dr. Liza, was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow. She was the head of the "Spravedlivaya Pomosch" (Fair Aid) Foundation, and she was one of the victims to the Tu-154 crash near the coast of Sochi.
