A woman from Kabardino-Balkaria requests to return her relatives from Syria

Madina Naloeva, a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, has reported that a wife of her son and two of her grandchildren are awaiting a trial at an Iraqi prison in awful conditions. Appeals to the authorities with a request to return the children home remained unanswered, the woman notes.

Madina Naloeva has asked to help the family members of her son Nodar, who was captured in Iraq. The woman is not aware of the fate of her son. She associates his departure to the Middle East with the fact that in Kabardino-Balkaria he was persecuted and tortured by law enforcers.

On January 1, 2015, Nodar with his wife and a child left for Moscow. The mother does not know why her son about a month later decided to leave for Syria. She assumes that her son could be influenced by recruiters.

According to Madina Naloeva, her son's family members found themselves in Iraq in the territory of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia, and they failed to get out of there. The family members are in custody since August 2017.

The wife of the Madina Naloeva's son was accused of illegal crossing of the border and of terrorism. Under the laws of Iraq, she may face life imprisonment or death penalty. Children under three years old may stay in prison with their mothers and later they are transferred to shelters.

Valery Khatazhukov, a member of the Kabardino-Balkarian commission on adaptation of former militants to peaceful life, has confirmed that Madina Naloeva appealed to him with a complaint about persecution of her son. He believes the authorities should have shown condescension towards the man and stop persecuting him.
