Residents of Chechnya are sceptical about food distribution among the poor

Chechen authorities present the distribution of food parcels from behalf of the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation as a large-scale event, although it has not become a significant support for needy families.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 10, Chechnya hosted official events and religious rituals on the occasion of the Remembrance and Grief Day of the Chechen People. The emphasis was on the biography of Akhmat Kadyrov, the father of the incumbent head of Chechnya.

Poor families in the republic received 20,000 food parcels, the authorities have reported. According to the office of the head of Chechnya, the charitable action was organized by the Akhmat-Khadji Kadyrov Public Foundation.

According to residents of Chechnya, it was sooner an authorities' PR action.

"A chicken, a packet of milk, two loaves, and packages of rice, pasta and sugar; to be honest, it's not such a serious help. Ii was a sort of a voluntary charity alms, which usually families spread in memory of their deceased relatives, but our rulers presents it as a significant event," a local resident named Baudi said.

According to the estimate of Aimani, a resident of Chechnya, the food parcel will support a family for just a couple of days.

Some residents of Chechnya complained that the food help failed to reach them.

"My family received nothing... I alone raise three young children; we all live on my modest salary," said a woman-resident of the Grozny District.

The status of a needy person does not guarantee any help from the authorities, said Louiza, a resident of Grozny.
