Mass fight in Derbent had religious context, locals report
The mass brawl in Derbent could be caused by a conflict between the followers of the Salafi and Tariqa trends of Islam, said a local resident Magomed Khanmagomedov. So far, the local militia has refused to disclose any details of the incident.

Stavropol Territory: OMON fighter accused of deliberately knocking down a Korean by his car
An OMON (special militia) serviceman was detained in the Stavropol Territory; he is suspected of attacking, along with his friends, local Korean nationals. During the attack, they cried out nationalistic slogans. According to eyewitnesses, after the fight the militiaman deliberately knocked down one of the Koreans to death. So far, inspectors do not confirm any ethnic motives of the murder.

Over one hundred peaceful residents perished in armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus in 2010
2010 in Northern Caucasus has been marked with a loss of over one hundred peaceful residents in armed confrontations. Some of them perished because of actions of members of the top brass. The number of victims can be even more if we take into consideration statements of relatives of the people who died in special operations and skirmishes, they say that their people became accidental victims or were kidnapped.

Young Chechen residents went to Moscow to take part in riots
Several groups of young people from Grozny visited the Russian capital with the aim to support their relatives, friends and Caucasians in general, after mass riots out of national hatred burst out on December 11 in Manege Square in Moscow.

Kalmykia marks Memory Day of victims of Stalin deportation
Today, Elista - the capital of the republic - and its districts hosted commemoration actions dated to the 67th anniversary of deportation of the Kalmyk people. On December 27, 1943, a decree of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet was signed "On Liquidation of the Kalmyk ASSR", and on the following day the operation "Uluses" was launched, which assumed forced resettling of the entire nation to remote localities of the country.

Court to consider cassation of the driver who killed Bella Ksalova after New Year
Arsen Abaikhanov, who on July 25 in Karachay-Cherkessia knocked down by his car Bella Ksalova, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who later died, has lodged a cassation complaint to the Supreme Court, claiming that "the verdict was unfair and too severe." Ecologists demand to change railway project on Cape Vidny near Sochi
Under the pressure of ecologists the Customer's Service of the Directorate for Complex Reconstruction of Railways and Construction of Railway Objects in the City of Sochi (known as "DKRS-Sochi") of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Russian Railways" has held a repeated dendrological examination of Cape Vidny. After the examination, it was decided to transplant the Red-Book plants growing in the way of the construction. However, ecologists are going to fight for changing the whole railway construction project.
