Krymsk residents fear re-flooding

At present, staff members of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), police and volunteers try to reassure residents of the city of Krymsk, where today the information on impeding of the second wave of flooding appeared.

Today, in the afternoon, in Krymsk, residents of the city began to spread information that the second wave of flooding comes to city. Within an hour, a traffic jams formed in the city; local residents, fearing a new flooding, try to leave for other cities or mountains.

Denis Khmelevskoy, Acting Secretary of the regional branch of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party reported to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent from Krymsk that a panic reigns in the city. There is unconfirmed information that new wave is coming, and there is no warning again. According to Denis Khmelevskoy, groups of people are at the heart of the city.

However, the MfE argues that Krymsk will not face the second wave of the disaster. According to the operational headquarters of the Chief Department of the Russian MfE in the Krasnodar Territory, the city of Krymsk has indicated no rise of the rivers' levels, no rains have fallen, and waterworks are working in a customary mode.

The press service of the Chief Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Russian Federation in the Krasnodar Territory also considers the information about the second wave of flooding to be rumours. "Despite the sunny and clear weather, the majority of the residents fell into a panic. To dispel all the rumours and doubts, Sergey Gorbunov, Colonel of Internal Service, Deputy Chief of the Chief Department of the MIA in the Krasnodar Territory, personally went to the Neberdjai water reservoir," the MIA's officials stated.

According to Gorbunov, the dam is in good order and the city faces no danger.

At present, police squads drive along the streets of Krymsk and call on the local residents by means of the loudspeakers to stay calm and not to go into panic.

Volunteers from the city of Krasnodar, including activists of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus", also argue that the information about possible new flooding is not true. "We visited the dam. It is not damaged," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told in the volunteer point, located in Adagumskaya Street.
