The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" and the "Civil Assistance" Committee are organizing a free-of-charge hospitalization of Makhmud Ahmedov, 14, who partially lost hearing after beating by militiamen in Dagestan, and his mother Aishat Guseinova in Moscow clinics. The "Civil Assistance" Committee has opened an account for donations aimed to treat the child.

The resident of the Grozny District of Chechnya, a relative of the owner of the house, where militant Khamzat Shemilev was killed on August 21, was kidnapped by power agents and kept in custody for about 24 hours. They demanded him "to confess" that he was Shemilev's helper; otherwise they threatened to kill him and announce that he was a terrorist-suicide bomber. This was reported by the head of one of local human rights NGOs.

In the evening on August 23, in the Zavodskoy District of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, unknown persons kidnapped a young girl. Eyewitnesses say that the reason of abduction was the girl's light dress. The militia has no data about the incident.

The Austrian Office of Public Prosecutor has presented a charge to three natives of Chechnya, suspected of murdering – in January 2009 in Vienna – Umar Israilov, a former security of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov.

The former commander of the "Vostok" battalion, Hero of Russia Sulim Yamadaev was buried today in Dubai, as reported by his brother Isa Yamadaev. Sulim's commemoration is held in the city of Gudermes.

Today, the family of Sulim Yamadaev, Hero of Russia and ex-commander of the "Vostok" (East) battalion, decided to switch off his life-supporting equipment, as a result of which Sulim died. This was announced by his brother – Isa Yamadaev.

On August 22, as a result of a fire opened on supporters of the CPRF (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) candidate in the Babayurt District of Dagestan one person was lost, two militiamen and two locals were wounded. With a demand to punish all those guilty over 200 persons blocked the "Kavkaz" Highway and de-blocked it only after interference of the First Vice-Premier Rizvan Kurbanov.
