Baku: journalist Fatullaev's appeal complaint considered

Today, the Baku Appeal Court, chaired by Mirashi Guseinov, has started a preparatory session on consideration of the appeal complaint lodged by journalist Einullah Fatullaev. The judge provided the journalist's advocates with the time till September 2 for getting acquainted with the protocols.

The Fatullaev's complaint demands to cancel the verdict of the Garadag District Court of July 6, which sentenced the journalist to 2.5 years of imprisonment for drug storage.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, in the beginning of today's session lawyer Isakhan Ashurov asked the court to take Fatullaev out of the cage and let him sit near his advocates. The public prosecutor had no objections, and the judge satisfied the request.

At the session, the journalist's advocates also petitioned about giving them time for acquaintance with protocols of the Garadag District Court on Fatullaev's case.

The judge has satisfied this request too and gave the lawyers a week for studying the protocols, having appointed the next session on September 2 at 10:30 a.m.

When the judge was about to close the session, Fatullaev asked to give him his ID, so that he could run for deputy at the parliamentary elections forthcoming on November 7. However, according to the judge, "this issue could be considered by the outcomes of the litigation." Earlier, the country's Central Electoral Committee (CEC) had announced that the journalist has no grounds for nomination.
