Azerbaijani CEC approves arrested ReAl leader Ilgar Mamedov as presidential candidate
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has approved the nomination of Ilgar Mamedov, 43, the leader of the civil movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl), who is under arrest and investigation, as a presidential candidate.

Rights defenders ask Dagestani authorities to investigate pogroms in Khadjalmakhi
In the Dagestani village of Khadjalmakhi people's militia units are lynching local Salafi Muslims, which demands urgent intervention of the leadership of Dagestan and the General Prosecutor's Office. This was stated on August 26 by activists of human rights organizations in their open letter to the Acting Head of Dagestan and heads of local and federal law enforcement bodies.

Dagestan: exhibition of Muslim relics was visited by over 5000 prior to official opening
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Dagestan that on August 26, one day before the official opening, the exhibition of relics of Prophet Mohammed was visited by more than five thousand people. According to Magomedrasul Omarov, the press secretary of the SAM of Dagestan, the exhibition will last till September 2.

Court session on the case of Rostov journalist Tolmachov postponed to August 28
The next session of the court dealing with the case of Alexander Tolmachov, a Rostov journalist and publisher, will take place on August 28.
