Investigators find grounds for arrest of Volgograd HRC member

Yuri Golder, a member of the Volgograd Human Rights Council (HRC), has been detained on suspicion of commercial bribery, and investigators prepare a request for his detention, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 26, Yuri Golder, a member of the Volgograd Human Rights Council, the leader of the Volgograd Association for the Protection of Consumers' Rights, and his assistant were detained. Yuri Golder is suspected of commercial bribery of a businessman, reported the Volgograd HRC's head. Colleagues of Yuri Golder associate his prosecution with his human rights activities.

The investigators assume that in May, members of the Volgograd Association for the Protection of Consumers' Rights found more than 25 violations committed in provision of services in a Volgograd hotel.

"The suspect demanded from the owner of the hotel complex to pay 1.5 million roubles for a refusal of an audit of the hotel, and later he reduced the amount to 1 million roubles," reports the website of the ICRF's Department for the Volgograd Region.
