Journalist Maria Plieva sued in Vladikavkaz

Today, a journalist and blogger Maria Plieva was detained in Vladikavkaz. She is accused of minor hooliganism and under threat of an administrative penalty.

Today at noon, near the Government House in the capital of North Ossetia, a rally of supporters of Alla Djioeva, a former presidential candidate, was to take place. As explained by the law enforcers on duty there, today is the "Day of Silence" (on the eve of the tomorrow's voting for Deputies of the Russian State Duma); therefore no actions can be held.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Maria Plieva that on her way to the square she was stopped by agents from the Centre to Fight Extremism and Terrorism.

"They asked me whether I was the organizer of the rally. I said no. They told me that an announcement had been posted on my blog. I said, yes, it was. They asked me to write an explanation there, on the spot. They put me in the car, closed the door and took me to the Interior Ministry. There, I spoke to the deputy minister about my blog, then – to the district prosecutor Shvetsov, also about my blog and what I wrote there. Then, they opened an administrative case against me," said Plieva.

Then, according to her story, Maria Plieva was taken to the Iriston Magistrate Court. There, she refused to talk without a lawyer; therefore, the consideration of her case was appointed on Tuesday, December 6.
