AI is concerned of further violent disappearances in Chechnya

It seemed in 2007 that the count of violent disappearances in Chechnya went down, but, nevertheless, neither in 2008 nor in 2009 they did not stop, but, according to some unofficial sources, these figures continue to grow. This is the topic of the memorandum addressed by the independent human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.

"In some cases, kidnapped people came back, others were found dead; the fate of the remaining victims is still unknown, and they should be considered as victims of violent disappearances," runs the document.

The memorandum to President of Russia was officially made public at the same time with presentation of the international report on situation with human rights in the world, annually published by the Amnesty International.
