During February 21-27, the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus took away at least 12 lives. At least 9 persons were injured during this period. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Tamara Magmadova, mother of Apti Magmadov and Aishat Magmadova, who are kept in the "Lefortovo" FSB's pre-trial prison, charged of recruiting Egle Kusaite, a citizen of Lithuania, to commit terror acts in Russia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that her children are exposed to physical and psychological pressure and left without medical care.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg has upheld a lawsuit of Amnat Khambulatova, a resident of Chechnya, whose son died in a militia station, and ruled that the Russian authorities should pay the monetary compensation of about 33,500 euros to her.

Residents of the Urus-Martan District of Chechnya have reported about kidnapping on February 23 by employees of some unidentified security agency of clergyman Movsar Ismailov. According to their story, Ismailov was released after torture and beatings. The on duty unit of the ROVD (District Interior Division) said that there was no application on the incident; thus, no actions were taken.

Last week, power agents of Chechnya detained more than 20 local residents in the city of Shali. The arrests began after a suspected militant was killed and three suspected members of the armed underground were detained in this city.

Helsinki and Stockholm host actions in commemoration of deportation of Chechens and Ingushes in 1944
At the picket on February 23 at the Russian Embassy in Finland, dated to the 67th anniversary of deportation of Chechens and Ingushes to Middle Asia and Kazakhstan, the Finnish pastor Yukho Molari provoked the audience to break the public order. This was reported by Elena Maglevannaya, a journalist and a human rights activist. On the same day a similar action dated to the anniversary of deportation of Caucasian nations was also held in Stockholm.

Military actions in Northern Caucasus move more and more from Chechnya and Ingushetia to other republics of the South of Russia. There are no grounds to speak about aggravation of the situation in Northern Caucasus in general, since Chechnya and Ingushetia demonstrate positive dynamics in the count of military incidents, while in 2010 the situation in Dagestan and Kabardino-Balkaria became much worse.
