During the existence of the "Islamic State" (IS), about 500 natives of Chechnya had joined militants of that terrorist organization. 50 of them were persuaded to return home. This was reported by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. During four months, the number of natives of Chechnya, who, according to officials, joined the IS, grew by nearly 100 people.

Four residents of the village of Mairtup are suspected of setting on fire the ziyart (mausoleum) of Yangulbi-Sheikh in the Chechen village of Kurchaloi. The Chechen Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) has called the arson of the ziyart (mausoleum) the second case after the similar incident in Shali a crime against religion and believers.
