Last night, certain armed people opened fire on the people who gathered in the mosque yard in the Lyankyaran District of Azerbaijan in the south of the country. The district police authority reports that one villager was lost, and one more was wounded.

The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has upheld the decision of the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria on changing the freedom restriction regime for Kazbek Budtuev, a defendant in the case dealing with the attack on power agencies of Nalchik on October 13, 2005. After five years in SIZO (pre-trial prison) he was transferred into house arrest. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by advocate Liza Shak.

On September 2, the office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" in Nazran hosted a meeting of human rights activists and applicants to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) with members of the European Parliament. In Ingushetia, members of the alternative parliament - Mekhk-Kkhela - never tried to contact the republic's leadership, said Kaloy Akhilgov, press secretary of President of Ingushetia. According to Ingush oppositionist Magomed Khazbiev, the main reason for restarting the alternative parliament is that Yunus-Bek Evkurov is continuing the policy of his predecessor Murat Zyazikov.

As a result of the hurricane that fell last night on the republic, hundreds of houses and electric networks were damaged in the Prokhladny District of Kabardino-Balkaria. As reported by the local department of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies, over 10,000 residents remained without electricity, and two persons were taken to hospital with traumas.
