Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan sign four documents

As a results of negotiations of Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan Dmitri Medvedev and Ilham Aliev, today in Baku four documents were signed, including the bilateral treaty on state border with an appendix on the procedure of border crossing.

Let us remind you that Medvedev arrived in Baku on September 2. The above border treaty and another one - on rational use of water resources of the Samur River - were reported to be the main topics of the visit.

Today, Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia Ilham Aliev and Dmitri Medvedev held a face-to-face meeting. As reported by the "AzerTAdzh", later a broader meeting - with participation of delegations - took place, and then, the ceremony of Azerbaijani-Russian documents was held.

As stated by President Medvedev at the joint press conference with his Azeri counterpart, until today almost 400 kilometres of Russian border with Azerbaijan remained uncertain; now this issue, according to Russian President, is settled, the TV "Channel One" reports.

Medvedev said that the agreement on rational use and protection of the transborder Samur River was also signed. After collapse of the Soviet Union, as Mr Medvedev has noted, Russia and Azerbaijan could not agree and divide the water resource of the river. Now, the countries have agreed about the rational mode of using the river, which satisfies both parties.

In the presence of both Presidents also the additional agreement to the contract on sale and purchase of natural gas between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and the "Gazprom" was signed. It assumes increase of gas deliveries in 2011-2012. According to the document, as quoted by the official website of President of Russia, starting from 2011 the purchase by the "Gazprom" of Azerbaijani natural gas will go up to two billion cubic meters per year.

After his talks with President of Azerbaijan, Dmitri Medvedev has stated that he is ready to continue his mediatory efforts for settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports.
