In Yerevan, court finds prosecutor's son guilty of beating journalist
On October 9, in Yerevan, the court has pronounced the decision on the case of beating of journalist Ruben Grdzelyan. The court found Albert Manrikyan, a son of Mesrop Manrikyan, Prosecutor of the Kotaik Region of Armenia, guilty of the incident and fined him 50,000 drams (120 US dollars). The court also decided not to prosecute the journalist because of the absence of elements of crime in his actions.

Witness at trial against three suspected members of Dagestani IAF claims that the bag was planted on defendant during search
On October 9, the Supreme Court of Dagestan continued to consider the criminal case against Ramazan Magomedov, Shuaibgadji Magomedov, and Abdulzhapar Labazangadjiev, residents of Dagestan, suspected of committing in the Kizlyar District a number of crimes as members of an illegal armed formation (IAF). Defence witnesses were invited for questioning.

Beaten Kevork Sunguryan dies in Sochi
In the morning of October 9, in Sochi, in the resuscitation ward of the Khosta Hospital No. 3, Kevork Sunguryan died from injuries, inflicted to him on October 2. This was reported by hospital physicians.

At trial on case of attack on Nalchik, four defendants not satisfied with results of examinations on use of torture against them
Yesterday, on October 9, at the trial on the case of the attack on Nalchik in 2005, prosecutors read out materials of examinations, conducted on the complaints of members of the "Shalushka" grouping, who claimed being subjected to physical force during detention and preliminary investigation. The materials denied such pressure on the defendants; however, they claimed the opposite at the trial.

Constructors of Olympic facility cordon off dwelling house in Sochi, local resident asserts
Constructors of the Olympic facility form the Research and Industrial Association (RIA) "Mostovik" cordoned off a house, belonging to a Sochi resident, with three-meter monolithic fence with barbed wire and deprived its tenants to leave the house. This was reported by Alexei Kravets, the owner of the house. According to the constructors, they intend to use such a way to achieve eviction of the tenants to be able to demolish the house, which hinder the construction of the Olympic facility, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Death of six persons in Derbent as a result of a flood confirmed
The personnel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Dagestan established identity of six victims of flooding as a result of showers in Derbent. The information of the seventh person who perished has not been confirmed as of the moment. The investigators are inspecting the officials' activities during the emergency in the town.

Residents of the settlement of Rembaza, Makhachkala, came out on a picket
About 30 residents of the settlement of Rembaza whom the authorities of Makhachkala had been trying to evict from their houses for already over a year came out on a picket in Kaspiysk - Makhachkala highway demanding to reestablish power, gas and water supply in the settlement. The picket started at 10 in the morning. The participants of the action, mostly women with little children, did not block the highway. Azerbaijan: 32 believers face criminal charges for confronting police
32 detainees face criminal charges in connection with the unsanctioned protest action of believers, which was held on October 5 in Baku in front of the Ministry of Education and which grew into clashes between the protesters and the police. Makhachkala residents express their indignation at power agents' failure to inform them about special operation
Special operation near the village of Agachaul of the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan, located in the vicinities of Makhachkala, is conducted by military men on detached service of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). In Dagestan, local resident claims delay of investigation into his accidental injury by power agents
