The Amnesty International (AI), a human rights organization, has urged Russian authorities to investigate the statements of Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh (also written as Stanislaw Klykh and Mykola Karpyuk), citizens of Ukraine, convicted in Russia, about use of torture to them during the investigation.

The counterterrorist operation (CTO), cancelled today in the Magaramkent District of Dagestan, was preceded by twelve other CTOs, announced in Southern Dagestan since the start of 2016. Five of them were conducted in the Magaramkent District.

Today, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has upheld the appeal filed by Azerbaijani oppositionist Aidyn Shukyurov about violation of his rights during the parliamentary elections held in 2010. The Strasbourg Court has obliged the Azerbaijani authorities to pay Aidyn Shukyurov compensation in the total amount of 11,000 euro.

In Buynaksk, two persons continue their hunger strike with the demand to cancel the results of the elections to the People's Assembly of Dagestan. The rest hunger-strikers had to stop their protest action because of deterioration of their health state. This has been told today to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Kamil Shakhbulatov, the chief of the Buynaksk branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) and a former participant of the hunger strike.

Mothers of young men disappeared in Dagestan have founded the public movement "The Mother's Heart". According to members of the new movement, in Dagestan, disappearances are not investigated properly, and many of the incidents may involve the law enforcement bodies.

The village of Tagirkent-Kazmalyar, Magaramkent District, has been put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime, the Russia's National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) has reported today. According to a Dagestani law enforcement source, in the course of the CTO, power agents entered a shootout with some persons, who had opened fire on them from a blocked house.

Today, the Russian Supreme Court (SC) has started to consider an appeal filed against the verdict pronounced in the criminal case against Ukrainian citizens Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh, accused of involvement in the first Chechen war on the side of the militants. The court session was attended by Nadezhda Savchenko, a deputy of the Ukrainian Rada, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. She expressed her support for the sentenced Ukrainian citizens.

Today, the North-Ossetian Supreme Court has held another session on the complaint of activists of the "Voice of Beslan". The court has ruled to mitigate the punishment of Zhanna Tsirikhova, a participant of the action in Beslan, by reducing the fine imposed on her, since she was just a participant, not an organizer of the action.
