Oyub Titiev's defence claims falsification of evidence in his case

Washouts from the Oyub Titiev's hands were taken without an advocate and sealed in the absence of the rights defender himself, and law enforcers inclined him to self-incrimination during many hours, stated advocate Pyotr Zaikin in court.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has dismissed the defence complaint about Oyub Titiev's arrest and upheld the decision of the Shali Court to keep the rights defender in custody until March 9

On January 11, Oyub Titiev, the head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Grozny in Chechnya, was arrested for two months on the charge of marijuana possessing. Oyub Titiev stated that the drugs had been planted on him by a law enforcer

During the consideration of the appeal, Pyotr Zaikin, the Oyub Titiev's advocate, drew the Court's attention to numerous procedural violations in the case against the rights defender. According to the advocate, law enforcers conducted many hours of non-procedural conversations with Oyub Titiev and pressured him into self-incrimination, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported from the courtroom.

Pyotr Zaikin called the case against the head of the HRC "Memorial" office in Grozny completely falsified. He reported that the washouts from the Oyub Titiev's hands were taken without an advocate and the wadding pads with traces of the washouts were not sealed in the presence of the rights defender himself. "They made washouts, then, under an incomprehensible pretext, they brought out my client, and when he returned, everything had been already sealed. We do not know what exactly they put in the package," the advocate said.
