The armed clashes that broke out on January 30 in the Chechen town of Shali and led to casualties was either a pre-planned militants’ attack, or an occasional accident, due to which power agents had thwarted crimes of the supporters of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia. The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has opened a case on a fraud with a land plot lease against Nikolai Borodin, a participant of the “tractor march” of farmers from the Krasnodar Territory, and Elena Petrova, the wife of another protester. Borodin suggests that they are prosecuted for their participation in the protest movement.

Last night, the health condition of Nerses Pogosyan, arrested in Yerevan on suspicion of having links with Zhirair Sefilyan, sharply aggravated; and he stopped the protest hunger strike. Prison doctors assessed his condition as satisfactory.

In the case of planned assassination of the leader of the Chechen Republic in the spring of 2016, the investigators' versions is based on the testimonies of Shamkhan Magomadov, Beslan Zakaraev, and Aziz Alviev, detained in May 2016 after an attack on a checkpoint in the Grozny District. Today, the court of general jurisdiction of the Yerevan districts Kentron and Nork-Marash has sentenced Arsen Mkrtumyan, Gagik Mikaelyan and Soso Margaryan to three years in prison each, finding them guilty of using violence against policemen during riots in Yerevan.
